Job posting websites let an employer or recruiter post a job advertisement online where it will receive greater attention than if it were posted in a local newspaper. This is due to the Internet’s extreme popularity and versatility. Due to high exposure, the employers can reach out to potential employees across the country and interview many qualified candidates, thus finding the optimal employee.
These websites also benefit potential employees by giving them access to many open job positions. They can apply to jobs in another city or country if they are willing to relocate, thus widening their job pool. Thus, job posting websites are useful for everyone.
However, not all job posting websites are created equally. Some have low rankings on search websites such as Google, Yahoo!, and Bing, which means that they don’t have the same exposure to employers and employees. Some have strict rules or charge membership fees for employers to post their advertisements (or for job seekers to search their listings). These job websites aren’t as valuable as others. A good job posting website will have the following qualities:
- Free to recruiters, employers, and potential employees
- High number of page visits per day
- Easy to use (i.e. easy to post a job and search postings)
- Large volume of available jobs
- High search rankings on Google
Note: niche job sites will have lower rankings than some of the giant, general job posting websites, but they should still show up on the first or second page of search results if you are searching within your niche. (i.e. a search query of “nursing jobs” should return a good niche job posting website in the top two results pages)
The most used job posting websites are among the largest on the internet. These include Monster (monster.com) and CareerBuilder (careerbuilder.com). And while they are free for job seekers, they charge job posting fees to employers, meaning they aren’t always ideal to use.
Some good free websites (free for employers, recruiters, and job seekers) are as follows:
- Job Spider (www.jobspider.com)
- Career File (www.careerfile.com)
- Job Adventure (www.Job-Ad-venture.com)
