Where and How to Find Government Job Listings

The government offers many great jobs.  If you are a medical worker, you could perform research with the Food and Drug Administration.  You could find a job as an accountant with any number of agencies.  The military offers many careers via the Army, Navy, and Marines.  In short, the options are endless when it comes to government employment, but you need to know where to search for the best job openings.

USAJobs (www.usajobs.gov) is the best website for government job postings.  Here, you can search for jobs by agency.  For example, if you wish to work with the Department of Defense, you can look to see what openings they have available without sifting through positions at other government agencies.  You can also search for jobs by location.  USAJobs has positions in all fifty states.  And, if neither of those options suit your needs, you can search for openings by occupation.  USAJobs has openings in Accounting and Finance, Library Services, Veterinary Services, Engineering, Information Technology, Copyright, Quality Assurance, Psychology, and Transportation, to name a few areas.  With over 30,000 openings per month in these areas, it’s easy to find a job that you can do.

While searching for jobs, you can also make an online profile at USAJobs.  You can post your resume online so recruiters can find you and easily apply to jobs online once you create your free account.  This feature also allows you to receive automated job alerts, so when a new opening is posted in an area you are interested in, you will know right away.  This makes the search for government jobs simple.

While USAJobs is the most reputable government job search engine, there are other job boards out there for this niche.  The following are other well-known websites:

-www.govtjobs.com: This website is another free search engine with jobs in Administration, Code Enforcement, Leisure Services, Public Safety, and Social Services, to name a few concentrations.  While not as detailed as USAJobs, it is still a valuable resource.

-www.federaljobsearch.com: This website is a well-organized job board.  You can find jobs with the federal government, state government, or city government systems.  Search by location or occupation to find exactly what you need.
